Watch the latest TEDxMalvern talks on ‘Thoughts for the Future’

People around the world now have the chance to hear from inspiring local thought leaders through a series of free videos filmed at the recent TEDxMalvern event.

The evening, which was held at the Coach House Theatre on 25 April, featured a line-up of fantastic live speakers, screenings of informative TED Talks and offered a chance for guests to network and discuss ideas.

With the theme ‘Thoughts for the Future’, the talks were presented to an audience of about 100 people and covered such topics as the benefits of social media in a rural setting, inspiring young people to pursue a career in engineering and how tertiary education is changing for the better.

The live speakers were Revathi Timms, Executive Director of Avatar Enterprise, Rhea Freeman, Marketing and Social Media Consultant and Ross Renton, Vice Chancellor of the University of Worcester.

TED is a nonprofit organisation devoted to ‘ideas worth spreading’, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or fewer) delivered by today's leading thinkers and doers. TEDx is a programme of local, self-organised events that bring people together to share a

TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection.

The event was supported by Malvern Hills District Council (MHDC), Innovate Malvern CIC, Malvern Hills Science Park and WINN Worcestershire. The evening was filmed by Wild Edric Media.

 Dr Adrian Burden, Lead Organiser for the event said: “TEDx events provide an opportunity to highlight ideas and insights that are meaningful to the local community in which they are held, but applicable and interesting to a world-wide audience. It is really satisfying that TEDxMalvern is becoming established as an informative occasion for our town.”

 Simon Smith, Co-organiser of TEDxMalvern and Economic Development Manager at MHDC, said: “The event was a great opportunity for innovative minds to come together to share ideas and discuss thoughts for the future of Malvern and the county as a whole.

“As part of our five year plan to make Malvern a centre of innovation, the event was aimed at helping to build upon the town’s unique heritage as a centre for technology development and creative thinking.”
