Historical Hauntings at The Commandery this Half Term

This Halloween half-term brave visitors can hear spine-tingling tales of creepy characters from The Commandery’s colourful 1000 year history, go on gruesome ghost hunts, and enjoy scary scavenger trails from Tuesday 24 - Tuesday 31 October.

Victorian Ghost Hunters Ethel and Florence are looking for intrepid assistants to aid their investigation into the various ghosts which inhabit the beautiful grade I listed historic building nestled in the heart of Worcester. All plucky children between five and ten are invited to join on a hunt at 11am or 2pm on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday during half term. Applicants, however, must be prepared to demonstrate their courage and their ghost-busting skills by completing a series of dares and challenges scattered around the scary house.

Macabre but true tales of hauntings by characters from The Commandery’s varied past will delight older children and adults who don’t frighten easily. Time your visit to 11am or 2pm on Wednesday, Friday, Sunday and Halloween day to hear about how the Duke of Hamilton’s mortal remains were buried under the floorboards and monks who have been heard chanting at midnight.

Every day during half term, families can enjoy exploring the new exhibition while also hunting for items on the ghostly scavenger list. And of course, all ages can have fun getting dressed up and taking some snaps in the spooky selfie sitting room.

Jo Willis, Learning Officer at The Commandery said: “We’re going to be daring our younger visitors to try new things and get quite hands-on when finding out about some of the grislier bits of our thousand year history this half term. We have some fascinating stories to tell – and some pretty spooky ones at that! We’re certainly the place to be to properly enter into the ‘spirit’ of Halloween this year.”

Join the Friends of Fort Royal Park and The Commandery to celebrate Halloween with Family Fun at 5pm on Tuesday 31st October. Young visitors can wear their best fancy dress for a chance to win their annual cat-walk parade, and there will be a treasure hunt in The Commandery and Fort Royal Park. Refreshments are also available at The Commandery.
